Busy Tag troubleshooting

Does Busy Tag require software?

Yes.

Busy Tag is designed to be used with the official Busy Tag app or the Luxafor app.

The device does not require additional drivers, but the app is needed to change images, GIFs, or control how the Busy Tag behaves.

My Busy Tag lights up but doesn’t change its display. What should I check first?

This usually means the device is powered but not fully connected to your computer.

Please check the following:

1. Make sure you are using a USB data cable

Busy Tag must be connected with a USB data cable, not a charging-only cable.

Charging-only cables can power the device, but they do not allow data transfer, which prevents the Busy Tag from working correctly with the app.

This is the most common cause of issues.

2. Check if Busy Tag appears as an external drive

When properly connected, Busy Tag should appear on your computer as a connected external drive (similar to a USB flash drive).

  • If it does not appear, the device is not fully connected
  • This often indicates a non-data cable, but can also be caused by system restrictions

3. Check for system or security restrictions

Some computers, especially in corporate environments, may block external storage devices.

Please check:

  • whether external drives are allowed on your system
  • if antivirus or firewall software could be blocking the device

These restrictions can prevent Busy Tag from being recognized, even if it is working correctly.

My Busy Tag turns on but stays on the logo screen

This behavior usually means:

  • the device is powered,
  • but not recognized as an external drive,
  • and therefore cannot communicate with the app.

In most cases, this is resolved by:

  • switching to a USB data cable, or
  • connecting the device to a computer without external drive restrictions.

My Busy Tag doesn’t turn on at all. How can I reset it?

If the device shows no signs of working, please try a reset.

Reset method 1:

  1. Disconnect the Busy Tag from your computer
  2. Press and hold the reset button (small hole on the back of the device)
  3. While holding the button, connect the Busy Tag back to your computer
  4. Hold the button for 2–3 seconds, then release

If it doesn’t work, repeat the process a few times.

Reset method 2 (alternative):

  1. Connect the Busy Tag to your computer
  2. Press and hold the reset button for 5–10 seconds
  3. Release the button
  4. Unplug the device and plug it back in

If needed, try holding the button slightly longer and repeat the process.

Some devices may require multiple reset attempts before responding.

I tried resetting multiple times and it suddenly worked. Is that normal?

Yes, this can happen.

In some cases, Busy Tag may start working after several reset attempts.

However, this does not occur in all situations.

What if none of the troubleshooting steps work?

If the device still does not function after:

  • verifying a USB data cable,
  • checking system restrictions, and
  • attempting a reset,

our support team will:

  • provide a replacement unit, and
  • ask for the original Busy Tag to be returned for inspection.

Returned devices are usually reprogrammed and restored.

In many cases, the hardware itself is fully functional.

How often do Busy Tags arrive completely non-functional?

This is very rare.

Most reported issues fall into one of these categories:

  • incorrect USB cable (charging-only)
  • blocked external storage access
  • incomplete initialization requiring a reset

If the problems persists after several attempts, feel free to contact our support team at support@luxafor.com and we’ll help you out.
